Press play. The soundtrack to my creativity awaits.
I made this dress one night after work. -Nat's Confessions
In true procrastination fashion, I chose to create a dress for the President's Inaugural Ball a few days prior to the event.
I have known about the ball since she began her term in July of 2014... but there I was in the midst of reading
several articles, writing a paper, and working on a presentation all due in just a few days...
trying to find a small window of time to make this dress. Do you like it?

All things considered, I think I did a great job! And this is how I did it.

Nat's Confessions:

1. First of all, this "dress" is actually two separate pieces. Last summer I did a post on how to make a maxi skirt. I used the same pattern to create the floor length bottom that you see above.

2. The top is another two pieces. Last year, I thrifted the lace top at my job's Annual Clothing Swap. I looked at it and immediately thought "I'll use you at some point for a dress." I had a cheap navy tank top from Forever 21 that I cut into a sweetheart shape and sewed onto the lace shirt... while I was in it. Also, the fabric I got half off which brought the total of this dress to $10!!

3. I completely removed the back of the tank and stitched what was left into place using my sewing machine.

Look below to see pics during the construction phase and at the ball.
